It was a Sunday night. We were all returning to Bangalore from a KOS conference. The coach was full of eye surgeons! Past, current and futures of everything was on agenda! Why we don’t have a Ophthalmic society in Bangalore came up as a hot topic. The console was that it was by intention, so that we don’t get isolated from KOS. It was a consensus on that day that we should have our own society, as most districts have there own. Those in Bangalore do have specific needs which KOS should not be burdened with.

Within few months of telephonic discussions this thought took concrete step. I should thank Dr. Solanki, Dr. Sunderram Shetty, Dr. Y.L.Rajashekar and others for crystallizing the thoughts. We had several meetings, and as per popular request Dr. Bujang Shetty gracefully accepted to be the first President. Dr.YLR drafted the charter and memorandum of our society, which was discussed and refined over several meetings. The salient points were, apart from giving importance to academics, for the first time, the elections were to be held online. Adequate time was given to each term so that the office bearers could effectively function. An young and energetic managing committee took charge, and there was no looking back! It was success and success!

BOS is on record to have conducted the best annual conferences in the country. Each session was increased to 90 minutes, giving ample time for panel discussions. This pattern became an instant success. There are no more one way talks! Very few didactic lectures, lot of interactions and plenty of practical take home messages! Hall A was dedicated for Postgraduate students, with most interesting topics! This hall was packed not only by PGs but also by practitioners!

Another feat has been “BOS Netrashaala” which became a grand success. Topics that interest PGs for their exams as well as for career were discussed by eminent faculty.

BOS has active Wattsapp groups, where members exchange day to day issues. It has become an active forum! Issues like quality, administration, management, clinical skills, webinars, etc are discussed with great enthusiasm.

BOS has become a part of life for us! Looking forward to the forthcoming physical meet.

The idea of BOS (Bangalore Ophthalmic Society) was originated in train from Devanagare to Bangalore. In discussion about the state conference few of us felt that there is a need of different platform as the needs and challenges are quite different in metro cities and most of the services provided are from private practice background. After few months of this we had a meeting with few senior members of the Bangalore city and after lengthy discussion and_in subsequent meeting which was attended by many colleagues.

The idea of BOS started taking shape and we thought that BOS can take some clues from Delhi Ophthalmic Society (DOS) which is doing a great job in northern part of India. The main aims of BOS were to enhance and sharing the knowledge in profession, finance, management for their future support young Ophthalmologist, so they will be better equipped with comprehensive knowledge.

Being the founding member of the BOS and second president of the society, | had a good time in discussing and implementing lot of changes and new innovations like CMES for P.G. Students, knowledge sharing seminars were organized with great success. The burning issue of TPAs and legal hassles which bothered each and every one of our members, few committees were formed and work has started. We had public awareness programme and press meetings to spread the positive aspects of the ophthalmology world.

Now we have 6th BOS President but still few concerns are there like TPA issues which due to many reasons it is not solved, my personal fear is that if we don’t adopt to newer strategy we will be treated like a divided family where everyone will be extracted in different ways.

The representations to BOS from Government facilities and small set up is also important as they all work in different set ups and have different challenges and immunities. To increase the base of BOS this is must to accommodate than at proper platform, otherwise it will be again a elite club which is governed by only few with ideas from them.

| pray to God that let our BOS to reach to a stage where others should follow up as we are in the city of innovation of India.

Greetings to all ,

My President’s tenure from 2019 to 2022 was a memorable one with an excellent team of office bearers and MC members., I thank each one of them for the co operation and help they extended to me for all the activities during these years.
Bossummit 2019, conducted in June 2019 at ITC Gardenia was an unique one with good academic programme for 2 days.
After the 2019 event, we had number of CMEs by different Institutions under the aegis of BOS.
Then in early 2020, we started planning for BOSSUMMIT 2020 , with Dr Deepti as Organising Secretary..,,, but in March COVID pandemic started with lockdowns, closures and reduction of business in all areas, different government rules and regulations followed and we have to cancel the bossummit 2020 .
But soon online meetings started on zoom and other platforms and more academic and scientific programmes were held online with participation of both national and international speakers from their own places. I think we had more online academic activities during these COVID times when compared to regular years.
Due to the magnanimity of BOS members our team got an extension of One year,so that we can do regular Bossummit i 2021.
Since COVID ,2nd wave and 3,rd wave followed with much mortality and morbidity, We have to conduct BOSSUMMIT 2021, a virtual meeting which was an excellent meeting held in the month of August 2021.

COVID pandemic and it’s effects and the changes it brought in our day today interactions, conducting online meetings, webinars is a unique in my tenure as president of BOS.

There are so many enthusiastic and energetic members in BOS who will definitely carry Bangalore Opthalmic Society to greater heights in future.Wish you all the best. Long live BOS.

I’m extremely happy to see that our BOS has grown in leaps and bounds thanks to all the leaders and members. Our aim was to have a society that would enrich our knowledge and also come to solve the problems faced by our members. I honestly feel we are moving in the right direction.
